Negritude et Condition Africaine

Literary and political movement born in the 1930s, Negritude was initially a response to Western cultural domination caused by colonization. Among the great poet Aimé Césaire (1913-2008), who coined the word of Negritude, inspiration has been to base acute racial consciousness. A historical awareness of the experience of the Negro, who were hit on the domination and abjection. From the work of Césaire and the other great writers and politicians, including Senghor, Soyinka, Achebe, Cheikh Anta Diop, the author provides in-depth cultural and social reflection, nourished by its triple parentage – Yoruba, British, French. Here he analyzes the issues, trends, reversals that make up the rich history of Negritude and, through it, the African condition itself. Both revolt of black cultural nationalism, intellectual history and creative utopia, Negritude meeting today a renewed interest in the new generation of African writers and intellectuals.
